GREENVILLE (WNCT) – The East Carolina baseball team will host the Exceptional Community Baseball League in a pair of special exhibition games on Sunday.
The youth players will play their game at 3:30, followed by the adult game at 4:30.
The ECBL is a baseball league for players with disabilities and special needs.
Pirate Coach Cliff Godwin got involved last year in his first season at ECU.
“I mean it puts a lot of things in perspective. When you lose a baseball game you think it’s the end of the world and you get these kids out here and they have had to fight through a lot of difficult things in their lives,” Godwin said. “Just to see the smiles on their faces. They hug our guys and just have a great time with them. Last year was the first time I had ever been a part of it and was just happy to be a part of it.”
Pirate ace Evan Kruczynski says the entire squad enjoys the day.
“It’s a such a great experience, giving back to the game especially for kids who don’t have the opportunity that we’ve had growing up,” Kruczynski said. “It’s just a great day where they can come out, get their chance to be an East Carolina Pirate and we enjoy it just as much as they do, just giving back.”
