Man charged in theft of cemetery vases, desecrating grave site in Greenville, Farmville

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Police have charged a man in connection with the theft of several cemetery vases.

It happened in Greenville at Pinewood Cemetery.

Michael Wayne Riggs was charged with injury to property to obtain nonferrous metals, defacing a grave site, misdemeanor larceny, and obtaining property by false pretense. In all, he’s charged with 21 misdemeanors and 8 felonies.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office also charged Riggs with desecrating a grave site >=$1,000, injury property to obtain nonferrous metals, and felony larceny for stealing vases from Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Farmville. He was given a $5,000 secured bond.
