Community Spotlight: Summer learning camps

GRIFTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A Time for Science is a learning center dedicated to teaching kids of all ages every aspect of science, astronomy, and nature.

As the school year is winding down for children, A Time for Science is getting ready for some very busy months. This year, the center is offering 7 full-weeks of summer learning camps.

Dozens of rising 1st through 5th graders will take advantage. Yet, at $200 per week, it’s out of the price range for some families in the community.

Education and Program Director, Maria McDaniel, said there is a way to help those kids in need.

“If you’d like to sponsor a child for summer camp, that’d be wonderful,” said McDaniel. “We have many children right now where their parents care, calling, asking if there are any scholarships. And we’re saying yes because we are receiving those donations right now.”

Each summer camp session runs from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Kids will be busy each day playing education games, learning all about animals, and having lots of fun in the outdoors while kayaking, fishing, and hiking.
