Camp Lejeune Marine charged in fatal wreck

SNEADS FERRY, N.C. (WNCT) –  A Sneads Ferry man is dead after the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a military vehicle Monday afternoon. The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on Hwy. 210 in Sneads Ferry.

The State High Patrol tells WNCT 21-year-old Camp Lejeune Marine Steven Joseph Crane was released to his military command after being charged with left of center and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

The military truck Crane was driving was traveling west on Hwy 210 when it crossed the center line trying to avoid traffic that had stopped suddenly. The driver of the motorcycle, 68-year-old Thomas Eugene Martin was killed instantly after being struck head on by the military vehicle.

The accident is still under investigation. No other injuries were reported.
