Outpouring of help for Onslow Co. volunteer firefighter who responded to blaze at own home

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Onslow County is stepping up to help one of its own recover from a fire at his home.

Half Moon Volunteer Fire Department Chief Philip Dallas said there has been an outpouring of help in the days since fire took the home of Robert Montcrieff. Montcrieff is a firefighter for Camp Lejeune and captain at the fire station.

Dallas said the department has set up ways for the community to help.

All donations of material goods can be dropped off at the fire department.

You can also make monetary donations through the Marine Federal Credit Union or a GoFundMe account.

An Onslow County Volunteer Firefighter responded to a fire at his own home Tuesday afternoon.

Half Moon Fire Chief Philip Dallas said the home on Whaley Field Road caught fire around 3:15 p.m.

When crews responded to the scene, they discovered it was one of their peers’ home. The homeowner was taken to the hospital after the fire for smoke inhalation when recovering his animals inside.

Chief Dallas said all the animals are safe.

The home was deemed a total loss and an investigation is now underway.

The firefighter’s name has not been released at this time but he has been released from the hospital.
