Jacksonville Fire and Emergency Services live burn exercises canceled

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A live burn exercise scheduled for Thursday has been canceled due to wind conditions.

Fire and emergency services said previously the training exercise would be held Thursday evening and Monday, April 25 at 106 and 108 Sherwood Road. It was supposed to begin at 6 p.m. and conclude around midnight. Heavy smoke and traffic congestion was anticipated due to partially blocked streets.

“This type of training is invaluable to the continued mission of the Fire & Emergency Services Department to be ready to fight fires and save lives. This training is a contributing factor in the agency’s national accreditation as a fire service” said Chief Mike Yaniero, Director of Public Safety.

The exercise will be re-scheduled weather permitted.
