PCC health fair benefits both students and public

WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Pitt Community College hosted a health fair for students and the community Wednesday afternoon.

The fair, which was free, featured basic health screenings and information for those in attendance.

Students in various PCC Health Sciences programs facilitated many of the screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, vision and even disease detection in major veins and arteries.

There were also CPR and ultrasound demonstrations, sleep lab tours and massage therapy students provided chair massages throughout the fair.

Medical assistant instructor Chastity Bass says today’s event provided students with invaluable “real world experience.”

“They have learned these things in a classroom setting,” Bass said. “They practiced on each other and now they’re given an opportunity to practice what they learned on the public.”

The American Red Cross also conducted a blood drive on site and Delete Blood Cancer DKMS provided attendees with an opportunity to sign up for a bone marrow registry.

In addition, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office set up a booth for medicine drop-offs.
