New Bern Police investigating afternoon shooting

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Eighteen-year-old Dewayne Mitchell is in custody after New Bern Police investigate two “shots fired” calls Wednesday afternoon.

The first call came in at 11:29 a.m. at the 600 block of Watson Avenue. No suspects were located.

Hours later, New Bern Police responded to the shooting victim in the area of Craven Terrace apartment complex. Roy Nolan, 19, was transported by EMS to CarolinaEast and then flown to Vidant Medical Center after sustaining a gunshot wound.

It is unconfirmed if the two calls are related, however the shooting was not random, but targeted.

Mitchell was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
