Man killed on NC-32 in Washington County near Roper

PLYMOUTH, N.C. (WNCT) – Senior Trooper Michael Barton was called to investigate a fatal accident on NC-32 in Roper, North Carolina Monday afternoon.

William Allen Baxton was driving his 1992 GMC Safari van when he crossed the center line and ran off the road into a tree near a ditch.

Per officials, his vehicle continued to travel forward, colliding with a wooden culvert next to a private drive where it stopped.

A resident witnessed the incident and noted that Baxton was driving fine until he suddenly started to accelerate and travel off the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington Co. Fire and EMS responded to the scene. No charges will be filed as a result of the crash.
