Man arrested in Rocky Mount charged in cold case of his missing stepson

SAN DIEGO (AP) – Officials have arrested the stepfather of a 2-year-old boy who disappeared in San Diego more than a decade ago and say he will be charged with murder in the case.

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said at a news conference in San Diego that Tieray D. Jones was arrested Monday by U.S. Marshals and Raleigh Police Department officers in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, a town about 50 miles east of Raleigh. California officials plan to request his extradition.

Police questioned Jones after the 2002 disappearance of Jahi Turner, his wife’s toddler son.

Jones said the boy disappeared from a playground when Jones went to buy a soda.

The boy’s mother was serving aboard a Navy ship at the time. The toddler had been living with his grandmother in Fredrick, Maryland.
