Greenville Town Commons to focus on history and entertainment

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Updated plans for phase one of the Town Commons plan was presented to the Greenville City Council Thursday.

Project leaders said several meetings held earlier in the year helped them get a clearer picture of what people wanted with the Town Commons.

After hearing opinions, they formed four key areas to focus on: history, play, nature, and change.

Those leading the efforts said they wanted to ensure the history of the area played a role in their plans. They especially wanted to pay homage to the Sycamore Hill Baptist Church.

Phase one will also include an interactive water feature, playground, living shore, and a kayak and canoe rental facility.

City leaders said they want to make the Town Commons a place where everyone can come and enjoy the city. Project leaders said they also wanted to better utilize the existing infrastructures by hosting more events.
