WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Changes are coming to the way Beaufort County first responders transport patients during an emergency.
In May, the county’s EMS will update transportation protocols to meet state standards. Among those changes, what to do when a patient is having a heart attack or suffers a traumatic injury.
Currently, patients with these injuries will be sent to the nearest hospital equipped to handle those types of emergencies.
The changes come less a month after the City of Washington requested the county take over EMS service within city limits.
The takeover was scheduled to happen this summer. Monday night, city leaders decided to delay the takeover until 2017 to give everyone time to reach a better agreement.
