(WNCT) – North Carolina has a bright future according to the economic outlook rankings in the “Rich States, Poor States” report.
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) gave North Carolina the second best economic outlook in the entire country. The state is up two spots since last year.
ALEC Vice President Jonathan Williams told 9 On Your Side the ranking for North Carolina comes after lawmakers continue to make tax reform changes. That includes cutting income tax rates. The General Assembly approved another cut in its last session.
Williams also said the outlook could turn for the worst, in part if North Carolina decided to essentially stand still while other states capitalize on changing the economy for the better.
“If North Carolina were to retrench and start changing policy and going back on the pro-growth reforms,” said Williams. “And let’s say the tax code that they enacted, you could see a hurt in the economic ranking going forward.”
The report factored in 15 policy variables to rank the states.
