CHARLOTTE, NC (WNCT) – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer is recovering from injuries after being shot overnight.
Just before 10 p.m. Saturday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a shots fired call on the 12000 block of Honey Hill Lane.
Lieutenant Andy Harris was one of the first to arrive on scene. The suspect fired shots and Harris was shot in the crossfire.
David Seeley heard the shots fired.
“About this point, a policeman comes running by me, saying, ‘I’ve been shot. I’ve been shot,'” said David Seeley.
At last report, Lieutenant Harris was alert, having conversations, and expected to survive. The suspect, whom police have not yet named, is in custody with life-threatening injuries.
CMPD Chief Kerr Putney said all officers went beyond the call of duty to make sure the public was safe. Lieutenant Harris is being kept in the hospital to make sure he makes a full recovery.
