Camp Lejeune Marine killed in Iraq sent home to California

RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA (WNCT) – A Camp Lejeune Marine who was killed fighting Isis in Iraq has made his last and final trip back home.

The remains of Staff Sergeant Louis Cardin arrived in Riverside County, California, Saturday afternoon. He was among several hundred Marines deployed as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. Officials say Cardin was mortally wounded during an Isis attack on his base last Saturday.

He had served three tours of duty in Afghanistan before his deployment to Iraq. A public service for Cardin set on Friday, ahead of his funeral at Riverside National Cemetery.

Flags were flown at half-staff across California in his honor this week.
