Sheriff: Man charged for allegedly assaulting 12-year-old

ELGIN, S.C. (AP) – A South Carolina man faces charges after entering a school and allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old student said to have bullied his niece.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews issued a release saying that 38-year-old Sellmore Stacy Luckie of Lugoff is charged with disturbing a school and assault and battery.

Luckie was arrested on Tuesday after going to Leslie Stove Middle School to have breakfast with his niece.

The sheriff says Luckie confronted the 12-year-old boy, grabbed him by the neck and threw him on a table. A teacher and a male student pulled Luckie off.

Luckie was taken to the Kershaw County Detention Center where he remained Wednesday. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.

The sheriff said it’s not uncommon for adults to have breakfast with students.
