GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A former boyfriend of a homeowner is accused of starting a fire on March 9th.
Greenville Police said Stewart Mills was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with second-degree arson. Officers said he started a fire at a duplex on Holden Drive back on March 9th.
The call came in shortly after 1 p.m. as a brush fire. Both Greenville and Winterville fire departments responded to fire. They extinguished the fire in about fifteen minutes, rescuing the dog in the process. Fortunately, no one else was a home at the time.
The yard, a fence, and an outside storage barn were badly burned. There’s also smoke damage inside the home.
After an investigation by the Fire Marshall, assisted by Greenville Police, it was determined the fire started in the outdoor storage barn and was ruled intentional.
The displaced resident was assisted by the Red Cross.
