BUCYRUS, OH (WCMH) – The 16-year-old Bucyrus junior who was severely injured in a freak accident on the basketball court has passed away.

The accident happened February 27. Noah Lear was playing basketball with a couple friends at a local church when the post snapped in half and the backboard and hoop came crashing into his face.

Noah was conscious and able to call his mom before he was taken to the hospital. At the hospital he went into cardiac arrest and oxygen was cut off to his brain. He was rushed to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma, but he never regained consciousness and was moved to hospice facility.

Noah’s mother, Melissa Griffin tells NBC4 that he passed away around 1:30 Wednesday morning at a hospice facility in Ashland. He was surrounded by family and momentos from those he loved.
