New Belhaven Alderman sworn in after death of Charles Boyette

BELHAVEN, N.C. (WNCT) – Former two term alderman Steve Carawan was sworn in as a new alderman in Belhaven Wednesday night.

Carawan takes the place of Charles Boyette, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this week from a heart attack. Boyette, who was a former mayor of the town also, had won his election in the fall.

The decision to fill the opening with Carawan was approved by a 2 to 1 vote. The change becomes effective immediately.
