Higher taxes ahead for New Bern homeowners

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Property taxes for New Bern residents will go up for the next fiscal year, according to New Bern spokeswoman Colleen Roberts.

Roberts told WNCT the Board of Aldermen approved during their weekend retreat the higher property taxes to kick-in July 1.

Property taxes will go up from 41 cents to 46 cents. One alderman voted against the increase.

The board also agreed to discuss raising stormwater fees at their next meeting. The proposal that will be considered will be to raise fees from $2.10 to $3.

The city can also expect to take in more money with the sale of city property. The board decided to set a minimum bid offer of 25 percent of the tax value of the property.

The alderman will meet on March 22 and will also talk about the new lot for Craven and Pollock Streets.
