ECU students take alternative spring break by giving back to community

CAPE CARTERET, N.C. (WNCT) – Spring break is underway for students at ECU, but some took their time to take an alternative spring break by giving back to the community.

This is the sixth year students have traveled to Carteret County.

They’ve been working with the NC Coastal Federation and Camp Albemarle to help clean and paint cabins.

They also helped with a gardening project for elementary students, oyster shell bagging and posting signs about turtle nesting areas.

For one Senior who spent the past week giving back, he says it’s all for a good cause.

“We’re out here trying to do something meaningful with our spring break trip, we wanted to come out and the trip was mainly focused on environmental impact,” said Hudson Bridgers.

Other ECU students will also travel to Baltimore to work on projects addressing homelessness, Roanoke for medical related service projects and Germany to help with outreach efforts to Syrian refugees.
