Developing story: 9 firefighters injured in Seattle building explosion

SEATTLE, WA (WNCT) – An explosion at a building in Seattle, Washington sends nine firefighters to the hospital.

Fire department spokeswoman, Corey Orvold, says the firefighters were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities say it happened Wednesday morning in the city’s Greenwood neighborhood.

The incident happened while firefighters were responding to a natural gas leak when the explosion and fire happened.

Officials say an unknown number of residents have been evacuated from two buildings in the area.

Orvold says at least one building was heavily damaged following the explosion.
