Duplin Co. Sheriff’s Office arrests two in marijuana trafficking scheme

KEENANSVILLE, NC (WNCT)- Two men were arrested on March 1 after the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office intercepted a package weighting near 11 pounds that had a strong odor of marijuana.

Jenity Jason Mejia and James William Ruano were both arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana by possession, possession with intent to sale and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Duplin Co. officials got word that marijuana was getting shipped to the area from California through a common carrier service.

After the initial investigation started, officials were able to capture Mejia and Ruano, then seize the shipment of marijuana. The estimated value of the marijuana was $38,000.

Mejia was placed in the Duplin County Jail under a $150,000 secure bond. Ruano was placed in the Duplin County Jail under a $35,000 secure bond.
