WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — East Carolina Football standout and former NFL wide receiver Terrance Copper is giving back in a big way starting this weekend in Winterville.
“Basketball, football, softball, soccer, also weight training as well,” says The Premier Sports Academy Founder Terrance Copper. “But it’s not all about sports. It’s also about developing kids as a whole.”
The Premier Sports Academy will open Saturday, March 5, and the facility is bursting at the seams with opportunities for kids in Eastern North Carolina. Copper gave WNCT a sneak peek at TPSA Friday. From batting cages to a room dedicated to tutoring students, the Academy has it all. Copper says he’s excited to highlight local talent and help those who may not have the opportunity otherwise.
“The best athletes are not the guys you see on T.V.,” says Copper. “The best athletes are probably the ones, or I know are the ones, that either in jail, or on the streets or just didn’t have the grades to get into college. Those are the guys that are left behind.”
He says he invested not only time but money into the Academy to help progress kids like him. He also plans to enlist the help of other pros to encourage the Academy.
“We really want to train kids on sports but we also want to cater to the overall person,” Copper says.
He gives a lot of credit to his high school coach and says it’s important to focus on being a well-rounded individual. This is the main goal of The Premier Sports Academy and Copper says it’s the least he can do.
“I just want to give back to the kids and let them understand, listen: your dreams are at hand but you have to take a hold of it,” says Copper.
The Grand Opening Event is from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at 4801 Reedy Branch Road in Winterville. For more information on The Premier Sports Academy and how your kids can get involved, click here.
