KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT)- The Kinston Department of Public Safety says the downtown community played a key role in a recent arrest.
On Thursday, officers responded to the downtown area after receiving several tips about a suspicious person. When officers located the suspect, he fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended.
Further investigation, along with help from citizens and business owners, led DPS to discover at least 11 vehicles had been tampered with.
Officers identified the suspect as 18-year-old Deon Ahmad Hines of Kinston. Hines was charged with resisting a public officer and 11 counts of tampering with a motor vehicle. Further charges could be pending.
Hines was taken to Lenoir County jail under $12,000 bond.
As the investigation continues, KDPS requests anyone in the area check their vehicles and belongings.
