Craven Co. man arrested after motorcycle chase

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Deputies arrested a Cherry Point man after a motorcycle chase.

It happened Tuesday when they attempted to stop 21-year-old Ryan Charles Staats for speeding (70/55) on Hwy 70 West near the Riverside Camping Center. Stats refused to stop, increasing his speed 130 mph in a 55 mph zone.  Officers continued the chase for about three miles when he finally lost control of his 2012 Kawasaki at the intersection of Hwy 70 and Taberna Way.

Deputies had to taser Staats to keep him from picking up his motorcycle in a continued attempt to flee the scene. He was arrested shortly thereafter.

Staats was charged with resisting a public officer, no liability insurance, expired registration card/tag, exceeding posted speed, reckless driving to endanger, and flee/elude arrest. He refused medical treatment and was placed in the Craven County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.
