PCSO using new technology to identify suspects

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) – Technology is making it easier for law enforcement to identify people and potential suspects in the field.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office just purchased two devices called Vigilant Solutions to help them instantaneously identify potential suspects.

“We use it here locally if a problem comes up we’re better to identify that person, but we can also on a regular basis,” said Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks. “Check it against people coming to court that may have outstanding warrants on them.”

The device scans hundred of faces a minute, checking through the state and national databases. Right now, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office has two of the devices, and plans to use it to enhance court security.

It can also be used out in the field to check license plates.
