Community marks Greenville rec center renovations

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Community members gathered on Thursday to celebrate construction on the South Greenville Recreation Center.

They formally recognized the laying of the cornerstone of the building.

In the fall of 2015, the center closed its doors because of needed repairs. It was first built in 1957.

“We really want it to be a holistic place where all the people in the community can come to and the kids can come and be safe,” said Rose Glover, Greenville City Council Member.

Programs the center used to offer did continue elsewhere.

The renovated center is expected to open this fall.
