Storm damages several buildings and billboards in La Grange

LA GRANGE, N.C. (WNCT) – Storms damaged several buildings along Highway 70 just west of La Grange. An out building was literally ripped apart by the storm. A two by six piece of wood was literally stabbed into the ground from the force of the wind.

The out building next to Down East Furniture wasn’t the only thing damaged. Metal sheeting was thrown several hundred yards into some nearby buildings. Several billboards along the highway were also toppled over and a building under construction had some roof damage. Jimmy Kornegay was nearby when the storm blew through. He rushed over when he got a call that some of his buildings were damaged.

“It hit the building that we’re working on here and foiled the roof and blew the doors out and hit the adjacent building, knocking a hole in the roof and the side of that building,” said Kornegay.

He hopes it doesn’t take too long to get things back to normal. Property owners are out assessing the damage and are hoping the next line of storms comes through without much more damage.
