NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A New Bern man accused of rape and robbery who was arrested on December 18 has now been charged with additional sex crimes in Craven and Onslow counties involving multiple victims.
Deputies said they arrested 45-year-old Kevin Courtney Smith as a result of an ongoing investigation that began in October. Deputies said the suspect met his victims through social media.
Smith is facing the following charges:
December 18, Craven County – felony first-degree rape, felony common law robbery, soliciting prostitution, patronizing a prostitute, and obstructing justice.
December 19, Craven County – felony first-degree rape and felony common law robbery.
January 13, Onslow County – felony first-degree rape, felony assault by strangulation, felony assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony first-degree forcible sex offense, and felony crime against nature.
February 23, Onslow County – felony second-degree forcible sex offense, felony assault by strangulation, felony crime against nature, and two counts of larceny.
Smith is in the Craven County Jail under a $5 million bond.
