GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Dozens gather at a local church to discuss the importance of voting and Black History Month.
More than a hundred people showed up Sycamore Hill Missionary Baptist Church Saturday morning to remember their history and discuss issues like voting. Community member Pat Clark says event like these need to happen more than once a year. She says the event raises awareness about the past.
“We can’t move forward in the world, without remembering our history and in order of us to move forward, we need to remember where we came from. Then we can understand the importance of voting and the importance of being an active citizen in your community,” Clark said.
Clark hopes younger people start to participate in events like today so they understand history and how it got them to today.
