JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Deputies arrested a Jacksonville couple on charges of felony child abuse and assaulting a minor child, inflicting serious bodily injury.
35-year-old Edward Hugh Felts III and 33-year-old Mary Alice Wilson, both of Running Road in Jacksonville, were arrested January 27th after it was reported that the minor victim was non-responsive and taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital. The child was later flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville due to the severity of its injuries.
Wilson was charged with Felony Negligent Child Abuse and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. Her bond was set at $25,000 secured.
Felts was charged with Felony Child abuse-Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. His bond was set at $100,000 secured.
Investigators said Wilson was receiving section-8 housing at the time the child sustained these injuries. Evidence uncovered during the investigation revealed Wilson and Felts conspired and fraudulently receive section-8 housing. That, along with medical documentation, led to the re-arrest of Felts and Wilson.
Wilson was re-arrested February 10th. She was charged with Felony Negligent Child Abuse, Felony Obstruction of Justice, (3) counts of Felony Obtaining Property by False pretenses and (3) counts of Felony Conspiracy to Obtain Property by False Pretenses. Her bond was set at $71,000 secured.
Felts was re-arrested February 11th. He was charged with: Felony Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury, (2) Counts of Felony Negligent Child Abuse and (3) Counts of Conspiracy to Obtain Property by False Pretense. His bond was set at $156,000 secured.
Both were placed in the Onslow County Jail.
