ECU students present SHOES project for mental illness

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – East Carolina University students presented the SHOES project Thursday on the campus mall to help those suffering from mental illness.

Each pair of shoes represents a student who battles mental illness.

Students also wrote on a “Worthy Wall” to leave positive notes to their classmates.

“As the day goes on, we’re getting more and more stories so students are definitely understanding the fact that they’re not alone and mental illness is a huge issue,” Student coordinator Brianna Garbacik said.

Organizers plan to host similar events at Hope Middle School and D.H. Conley High School.
