Charity event held in New Bern in memory of Tanner Webb

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Nearly two years ago, Tanner Webb, a 9th grader at New Bern High School, was killed in a boating accident in the Trent River.

Since then, family and friends have started a charity in his memory called Together 4 Tanner. Since forming, they’ve been able to raise more than $100,000 for youth sports in the city, and scholarships for student athletes at New Bern High School.

On Thursday, the 2nd Annual wine tasting for the organization was held at Captain Ratty’s in New Bern. 100 percent of the proceeds went to benefit youth sports and scholarships.

Tanner’s mom, Trisha Webb, said when the accident happened, she could have never imaged what would come.

“The only thing that I did know that we were going to continue,” she said. “No matter what had happened, we were going to do it for my son.”

County singer Bryan Mayer was also on hand to provide live music for the event.
