Coast Guard flies sick cruise passenger to hospital

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) — The Coast Guard has taken a sick woman off a cruise ship about 230 miles east of Cape Hatteras.

The Coast Guard in Portsmouth, Virginia, said in a statement that the Norwegian ship Breakaway reported that a 61-year-old woman was found unconscious Monday.

A Coast Guard helicopter from Elizabeth City arrived and took the woman on board and flew her to Sentra Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, around 6 p.m. Monday.

She was reported in stable condition at the hospital. The woman’s name was not released.
