New charter school in Greenville given the go ahead

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Advantage Capital Development Co. finally got their approval from the Greenville Board of Adjustments to open a new charter school.

The location will be in the ECVC building on Staton Rd. The group tried to open the charter school last year, but ran into issues with zoning laws.

The board unanimously approved to give a special use permit to the group to open the charter school.

It will serve students K thought 8th grade. The group said they expect around 250 students to start in the school, growing to more than 400 within a few years.

Pitt Co. Schools have taken a hit financially with the opening of charter schools in the area. Earlier in the Fall, school officials found out they will lose $3 million dollars from state and federal funds due to students leaving public schools to attend charters.
