KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Lenoir County spent the morning counting the homeless. The goal is to identify how big a problem exists with the hope of getting more federal funds.
Sue Proctor says last year Lenoir County only counted ten homeless people in the area. This year it was more than double. Proctor says they asked questions like how long they’ve been homeless and when was the last time they were employed.
Proctor says, “It helps us identify may be homeless veterans that some that the veteran groups can work with closely that they don’t know what services are available and it gives the homeless and opportunity to connect with other services.”
