Vidant cancer center one “beam” closer to completion

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) – Vidant’s new cancer center is one step closer to being finished.

The last steel beam was placed on top of the structure during a topping off ceremony. A celebration was held with hospital employees and construction workers to commemorate all of their hard work.

“It’s symbolic,” said Todd Hickey, Senior Vice President of Vidant Medical Center. “It represnts the firm dedication that we all are investing cancer care in Eastern North Carolina. That this building is going to happen, and it’s going to proivde the highest level of care for all cancer patients.”

Staff were invited to sign the beam, which was placed on the structure with a crane as everyone watched.

Construction began in March of 2015 and is expected to be finished in March of 2018.
