JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Jacksonville police joined people in the local community for a Cup O’ Joe Tuesday.
It was for their first ever Coffee With A Cop event.
The event is part of a national initiative for people to ask local law enforcement questions or concerns, without any agenda over a hot cup of coffee.
One Jacksonville man told 9 On Your Side being informed helps both parties in the long run.
“You know, you first build that relationship and you might find that there’s something that could be done for you or you could do for someone else and we all live here so you might as well start to participate,” said Alex Hernandez.
One police officer with the Jacksonville Police Department says the community is their eyes and ears, and without them they wouldn’t be able to do their jobs as effectively.
“I think knowing that process helps them understand a little bit better and also helps us understand their concerns and to be able to address those from our perspective,” said Sergeant Mark Ketchum.
A spokeswoman for the Jacksonville Police Department says for now the event will be held quarterly.
They will release their next Coffee With A Cop date in the coming weeks.
