Teen on repeat offenders list, 3 other men charged in robbery attempt

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Four men are charged after attempted armed robbery in a grocery store parking lot.

Police say it happened Monday morning, just before 1 a.m. outside the Food Lion on Easy Street in Greenville.

Officers say the victim reported she was sitting in her car with a friend when a dark-colored older model Jeep pulled up directly beside her. She saw four men inside, the rear passengers with masks on and one pointing a gun at her. She fled the scene uninjured.

Officers responding to the scene spotted a jeep matching the suspect vehicle’s description leaving the parking lot and initiated a felony traffic stop on Easy Street and Memorial Drive. They identified the men inside as:

• Daquez Howard, 19, of Greenville
• Jaquavious Howard, 16, of Greenville
• Kevin Ward, 34, of Greenville
• Jeffrey Wilson, 41, of Greenville

All four of the men were positively identified as the suspects who committed the attempted robbery in the Food Lion parking lot. While officers were conducting a search of the vehicle, a handgun fell off of Daquez Howard. He was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a concealed handgun, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Howard, a convicted felon, was part of the March 2015 Focused Deterrence call-in. Due to his involvement in the program, he will be fast-tracked through the judicial system and received a $1 million bond.

Jaquavious Howard, Kevin Ward, and Jeffrey Wilson were all charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and were booked in the Pitt County Detention Center under $500,000 secured bond.
