GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT)- The Pitt County Sheriff’s office is adding two new tools to its arsenal thanks to the Justice Assistance Grant program.
The first is a series of surveillance cameras. Sheriff Neil Elks says the cameras will help deputies monitor certain areas and track criminal activity, but he wouldn’t say where the cameras will be placed. The grant will also be used to purchase a new bar coding system for the Pitt County Detention Center.
“It’s always been a major issue of tracking the equipment in the jail. This new bar code would enable us to be able to label the evidence when it comes in and be able to track it better,” said Sheriff Neil Elks said.
Elks says grants help the agency purchase items that don’t fit into the annual budget.
