Hugo Volunteer Fire Department builds new sub-station

GRIFTON, NC (WNCT) – Residents in Grifton will soon have a fire station closer to their homes.

The Hugo Volunteer Fire Department is currently building a new sub-station on Grifton-Hugo Road near Highway 11.

“We already have firemen in the area; so, it gives us a distribution with an engine, which carries the full trauma kit, aed, rescue tools; everything will be at this station,” said Captain Johnny Craft, Hugo Volunteer Fire Department.

Craft says volunteer firefighters are building the station themselves. Construction is expected to be completed in February.

” We want to really have this station be a community interaction station, where people can see the truck and know that there is help right around the corner,” said Craft.
