Marine charged in Onslow Co. after high-speed chase

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — A Camp Lejeune Lance Corporal has been charged after a high-speed chase through Onslow County on Saturday. Sergeant T. Wells with the North Carolina Highway Patrol says Robert Burke, 21, was riding his motorcycle on U.S. 17 Bypass when a trooper attempted to pull him over. Burke sped up, continuing down the highway, and then turning on N.C. 53.

Wells says Burke ditched his bike on the shoulder of Gould Road after traveling more than 100 MPH. Burke was then arrested and complained of injuries. He was taken to the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville. Burke is currently charged with felony speeding to allude. Wells says warrants have been issued for Burke’s arrest pending his release from the hospital.
