9th Annual MCIEAST & Naval Hospital Awards gives recognition to four outstanding service members

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (WNCT) Some well-deserved recognition for some of our nation’s service members took place Friday aboard Camp Lejeune.

The 9th Annual Marine Corps Installations East and Naval Hospital Awards breakfast recognized four service members for their exemplary work over the past year.

24-year-old Christine Martinez was one of those four and grew up in a military family. She says receiving the Sailor of the Year Award is something she could only imagine.

“Before I left home he told me he’d been in for 20 years and never received an award for like Sailor of the Year or anything. He was like I don’t expect that from you just do your best, and then when I won I was like wow this reminds me of my dad and he was one of the first people I told,” said HM2 Martinez.

Martinez’s counterpart HM3 Christian Miranda received the Junior Sailor of the Year award.
The MCIEAST Marine of the Year award was given to Corporal Delvin Belote and the NCO of the Year award was awarded to Sergeant Tyrone Comer.
