A need for nurses in North Carolina

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – There is a need for nurses here in North Carolina.

There are more than 100 openings for nurses on Vidant Health’s website. The State Board of Community Colleges voted Friday not to pursue four-year nursing degree programs at the state’s community colleges. Lenoir Community College Dean of Health Sciences and Nursing Alex Welch says she’s disappointed.

“If we had the BSN degree at some of our community colleges, it would as lifelong learners as a registered nurse a chance to become a better well-rounded nurse.”

Welch also says offering a four-year nursing degree would allow students to live work and play in Lenoir County which would ultimately help the local economy.
