New Info: Train strikes van in Kinston, injures two

KINSTON, NC (WNCT) – A van was struck by a train Tuesday morning in Kinston.

According to Kinston Police Department’s public information officer Woody Spencer, the 2002 van was traveling eastbound on Vernon Ave when a train struck the vehicle. Kinston Dept. of Public Safety Fire/Rescue personnel extracted two injured persons from the vehicle.

Both were taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center.

The driver of the van was identified as 52-year-old Daniel R. Guy. He’s in critical condition. The passenger of the van was identified as 61-year-old Rickie Little. He’s in serious condition. Both are from Lenoir County.

Vernon Ave. has since re-opened to traffic.  It re-opened at about 9:05 a.m.

Police say charges are pending further investigation.
