Onslow Community Outreach extends hours for homeless during cold weather

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The bitter cold is leaving many of the homeless in danger Tuesday evening.

Because of that, several shelters in the east are now in emergency extended hours.

In Jacksonville, The Onslow Community Outreach is operating a day shelter and soup kitchen for the homeless.

Shelter operators say it’s necessary for them to remain open to help as many people as they can.

They urge anyone who may be out in the cold to contact them and they will do their best to accommodate their needs or help find other resources.

“We extended hours to hopefully for the sun to come out, the weather to warm up a little bit just safe enough for them to be outside and continue on with their daily duties,” said Deandra Stills, the Onslow Community Outreach Shelter Director.

To reach the shelter, you can contact them by dialing: 910-455-5733 or 910-347-3227
