Edenton man arrested for stolen car and attempted kidnapping

EDENTON, NC (WNCT)- Windsor Police arrested an Edenton man Friday after he attempted to kidnap a store clerk and steal his vehicle.

Officers responded to an armed robbery at Pearls Tobacco Plus, 315 N. Granville St. in Edenton. It was reported that the suspect, identified as Kelvin Eugene Singleton, 26, entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.

He then forced the clerk outside at gunpoint and attempted to force him into the clerk’s vehicle. The clerk refused and then Singleton took the keys and fled the scene driving the clerk’s vehicle.

A broadcast was issued with Singleton’s description along with a description of the stolen vehicle and he was apprehended in Windsor by officers of the Windsor Police Department while attempting to purchase gas for the stolen vehicle.

Singleton was charged with Armed Robbery, Attempted Kidnapping and Larceny of Motor Vehicle.

It was also discovered that Singleton was wanted by the Charlotte, NC Police Department for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and other weapon violations.

He is being held in the Chowan County Jail under a $500,000.00 bond.
