Missing Duplin County man found dead

WARSAW, NC (WNCT)- The body of a Duplin County man who had been missing since December 26 was found by Warsaw Police Thursday.

Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace tells WNCT that Michael Lynch’s body was found in a ditch off West Park Road just outside of Warsaw. A man mowing the grass near the ditch first came across the body around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

A Silver-Alert was first issued for the 59-year-old the day after Christmas. There was an extensive two-day search conducted for him. Michael Lynch had been suffering from dementia.

Officials believe that he died of natural causes and most likely fell into the ditch on his own. The investigation is still ongoing.
