NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – A truck driver has been charged with Wednesday’s fatal, five-vehicle accident in Craven County.
Highway Patrol says Brian Lamar Harrell, 28, has been charged at this time with misdemeanor death by vehicle and fail to reduce speed.
The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges will also be considered.
The accident happened just before 10 Wednesday morning.
Highway Patrol says the tractor-trailer driven by Harrell caused a chain reaction after rear-ending a car when it stopped as another car tried to turn into a driveway.
A man in one of the smaller cars died. He’s been identifed as Jacob Dejesus MoJarro.
One person went to Carolina East and a third to Vidant Medical Center.
Troopers say this accident calls attention to the way people drive.
“Just pay attention,” said Trooper Nicholas Stoneroad, NC Highway Patrol. “Leave yourself plenty of room and just make sure you slow down.”
Charges are pending.
